Getting a chance to be up in the clouds in a WWII aircraft was a dream come true. Feeling the roaring engine and the sheet metal vibrating down the runway is something I will never forget. I though to myself If I die today, I die a Happy Girl!
As the cockpit canopy remains open and the cold wind hits my face, I realize how lucky I was, I got to fulfill another childhood dream. Now I just have to survive the dog fight with the sky!
After flying in the two seater Harvard it made sense to jump on as many aircrafts that I could! So, the folks at Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum were able to get me up on this beautiful war bird. As a kid, I read so much about the aircrews of bomber command I was excited to jump in for a flight. It was definitely a different type of ride. The two engines thrusted the big bird up and up into the sky and left me in awe of their raw power. But being in the tail and experiencing maneuvers with only plexiglass between you and the sky, well it was magical!
Well, what can I say! This ride did not disappoint. To be able to touch the inside of the plane that saw action During WWII and to fly in it was fulfilling. To know that I got to experience flight in such a remarkable machine, I still get goosebumps. These planes all helped win the war as their use where pivotal in the allies winning the war. It is our link to a past time filled with brave men and women who served. The Greatest Generation! we owe them more than we know.
If you love the feeling and sound of roaring engines, look no further. This impressive and massive WWII Bomber is the epitome of War Birds. From the signatures of past crews in the bomb bay, to the navigator, radio operator, belly and upper gunner turret positions this aircraft, as well as the cockpit this aircraft gives one first hand experience from a crews perspective. To see something this spectacular still flying is simply awe inspiring. The fine folks at Commemorative Airforce tour the aircraft all over North America so that its history remains alive for future generations to come. Its an experience of a lifetime!
